  It's active, but it's mostly just if someone has a problem, they ask it
here.  There's not any actual discussion (software design has a LOT of
philosophical questions, no?).  I don't usually ask questions, but the
list has so little traffic that most of what does come through has the
effect of educating me as well as the question-poser (and it's not that
often, either).

Ok, here's an interresting one.  I thought that I was already on the
Think C mailing list, especially since I have been receiving email from
the list.

So I decided to reply to Cindy's mail, especially since I had a question
that I wanted to post to the list.  The following is the reply I got
from the list processor:

I have a problem with an application compiled with Think C 7.0.3

Compiles and starts up fine, but then it hangs trying to call a routine
which is in a different segment.

Thomas,

I would suggest checking for unallocated memory being used with
pointers.  This can lead to some unexpected results.  Sometimes
the Debugger will preset pointers, to NULL, or it may be loaded into
a different memory location when run with debugger, or from inside
Think C.

There are many movable modal dialogs box that I can put in background
because the applications menu and the apple menu are availlable. How to do
that? And for mouvable modals, do you know a good proc that I can use?

I got a unix c-code, which does not respect the 32K limitations of the Mac
with data arrays. Is here anyway, I can get it to work with Think-C 7
without rewriting parts of the code ?

  You might try splitting the function definitions up into smaller files
(each smaller file will need a copy of the header #included, and in all
but one global variables should be declared external - you might think
this obvious, but it took me a while to figure this out)...
  Unix source uses the ANSI library and also a special library.  I don't
know about THINK C 7, but in v5, this library is called "Unix", simply
enough.
  You'll have to put the smaller files in separate segments, too, which
will be slow - some discretion on which functions you put where should help.


  Of course, v7 might include MPW-like facilities to ignore the 32k size
restriction - check the manual.  Now that we no longer use Mac Classics
and 512Ks, the 32k limit can safely be ignored.
